I was just having a bit of a discussion about peoples culinary skills and it's occured to me that not all people can cook. Apparently some people aren't even able to boil an egg.

So from culinary genius to banned from kitchen for life... where do you rank?

Any dishes of expertise? Food poisonings...death?

My parents own a restaurant so it's assumed I can cook all this awesome chinese, Malaysian etc food. But my parents dont want to cook that stuff at home...they do it for a living! My housemate Craig is more capable of making a Penang Curry than I am... but then I could probably kick his ass making Casserole or Spaghetti Bolgenase.

So lets talk cooking.

I make a mean microwave burrito. The trick is to open the wrapper at both ends just a smidgen. That way you get even distribution of the steam and it cooks evenly in about 1:30 or 2 min.

If you count bbq as a dish. I can cook up some decent shit.
but if you want kitchen stuff....
Well, I can live on it, but i wont enjoy it....if it turns out edible.

Home Encomics is a required class that all students go to atleast it is in Ireland, I am more than capable of boiling an egg.

See home economics is compulsary in some schools but not all. At my school for instance it wasn't and I know many a person who had trouble with it.

I'd like to think i'm a competant cook. I dont like fancy meals...I can make them but complicated flavours dont interest me to often. I like pub kind of food or traditional sort of home meals.

I wish I could bake better, i dont get a chance to that often since two of my housemates do alot...so we always have to many sweet things. Like at the moment we have Ginger bread cookies and banana choc muffins.
I make chocolates quite well though.
But they hi jacked my trademark secret white chocolate truffle recipe...

In my opinion microwaving food doesn't count if all your doing is heating it. Some dishes can be prepared and cooked in microwave but heating a burrito dont count.
BBQ does count, it can take skill not to burn the shit out of everything yet have it still be raw in the middle..~shudder~

So, recipe follower, make it up as I go along or use the recipe as 'guidelines'.

and apparently I'm scary with knives...

You must remember my journal entry on cooking. It comes as a total surprise to most people (and it certainly surprised me) but I'm actually a rather good cook. It's been a while since I did much though. In France, my kitchen was too small and here, the supermarket isn't within walking distance and I can't be arsed to go to there on the bus just for food when my parents are feeding me anyway. This year I'll be back in college so no cooking there. But then...

I grew up chopping vegetables with a cleaver... so I guess that explains it.

I like big knives lol. Everyone around here always uses paring knives and stuff to cut with...i'm like... dude it's a paring knife..it's to peel shit...

I can cook more or less anything I have a recipe for, and after a certain point I don't need directions anymore. Favorite thing to cook is shrimp scampi thats heavy on the spice. I'm moving to an area by the sea so I'll be near cheap seafood for once.
