Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
We've seen the first two episodes of the new series. It's both different and the same but in the wrong places. The animation is poorer. When no one is moving and they're doing a close up, it looks the same as before, but apart from that, it seems rushed. Plot-wise, they're just retracing old ground and using the same old tired jokes. I guess they need to bring new viewers up to speed but Ed and Al are going to Lior at the end of the second episode for what I think is the same mission as the one at the start of the first series. So far, it just seems like a half-arsed recreation of the original. And yet I've heard it's really good. I guess we'll see what the deal is in the next couple of episodes.
Re: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Ive often heard the first series is trash and this second series is great, and not to even bother with the first.
But it kinda worked out like this for me.
I needed to see the first series to understand just how fucking awesome the 2nd series was. I'd suggest the same.

We were actually talking about this the other day. I don't think we saw more than a few episodes in the end. It was just too soon after seeing the first series. If we were to revisit it now, we could enjoy it without being distracted by all the similarities and differences.

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
I recently watched the whole series of Fullmetal alchemist, I don't get the hype, don't get me wrong it was good and the chibi moments were few enough for me to not totally despise it. But I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again and when I saw there was like another series I just wiki'd the plot rather than watching.
I wonder if it is more a product of it's time and I just missed the boat or my general disdain of the japanese plot arch or lack thereof.

Re: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Was it Brotherhood you watched though? That seems to be where all the hype is, though I thought the first series was good.

It would appear I watched the 2003 series, maybe I'll check this newer one out
Re: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
few things to remember...
and somebody correct me if I'm wrong
How the Homunculi are made is completely different.
2003 = failed human transmutation by various alchemists makes a humunculus
Brotherhood = all made by the same "person" possibly even all at once, and human transmutation (nor transmutation in general) has nothing to do with it.
because of this, their motives are also different.
some of the names are swapped around.
its almost a streetfighter level name switcheroo thing happening.
2003 = pride(King bradley) wrath (the one with Ed's arm and leg) sloth (some lady)
brotherhood = pride(King bradleys son) wrath (King bradley) sloth (some muscular dude)
Elrics dad isnt a dick.
2003 = he's kinda just an aloof guy who left his family cuzz..his body was breaking down?
Brotherhood = he's still kinda aloof, but he's a central character, and he left his family to save the world.

Did either of you see the Conqueror of Shamballa? It's a bit WTF but I liked it.
Re: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
is that the one with the Mortal Kombat story line?
"I'm gonna open an interdemesional gate and invade a whole other plane of existence!" craziness?
If so. I think so, but I only remember Not Alfonse.

I saw the original Mortal Kombat movie a veeeery long time ago and remember nothing about it. But yes.
You guys are far too polite to say so but you've more or less been implying that I have crappy taste. What can I say, I'm easily pleased?

Mortal men and women defending your own world, it's not about death, but life, James.
How can you forget this masterpiece ?

I remember who I saw it with but I don't think we saw it at the cinema. We possibly rented it but it wouldn't have been long after its release. We're talking nearly 20 years ago.

After brotherhood, I cant see the the first run as anything more than a weird fan fiction.
it was cool tho before.
its like Mum-Ra
he's cool in his red cloak, and his evil plotting.
but then you find out "OH SHIT! this dude has a Killer beast mode!"
