:/ weeks??..... thats a bit upsetting.... is webby still around?
Re: Whos still here
Helloo. So you managed to get in? Sorry I didn't reply, I've been in London on business. It's a shame about this place but I think we've just run out of stuff to talk about. Any ideas?
Re: Whos still here
Yeah I haven't been avoiding, but I think content is lacking. As James says, nothing to talk about. Cassie, work, Facebook and partying is taking most of my time now.

I stop by every now and again but I think the age of forums is dying.

Re: Whos still here
yeah it's all twitter and facebook etc etc,
I drop by now and then, but mostly out of habit.
I have ideas to add content but it never amounts to much.

Re: Whos still here
I was betting that we wouldn't get a Christmas thread this year. We didn't. Probably the first time we haven't. Except last year when we were serverless.

im still around, though rather busy as i am i usually jump on facebook when i get a chance; and I agree, facebook & twitter & other sites like those have taken over the webs, so the age of forums is slowly fading out.

Re: Whos still here
From what I've seen, given how it 'may' operate Google Wave could revive the forum.
But I'm pretty sure 90% of the people using it will be spammed to fuck unless your are careful how you use it. That's if it ever gets out of beta

How do you think it would help? I have an account, I can appreciate Google's aims (traditional e-mail is a dinosaur), and the basis for the technology is good and open, but adoption is always going to be a problem. Apart from knowing few other people with an account, I don't want to use it from a browser. There's nothing to stop regular applications from being developed around it but will anyone bother?

Re: Whos still here
I use Chrome, it seems quicker. That might be an optical illusion.
The way I've seen Wave work it can be plugged into Blog, so when your favourite blogger updates it, you get it posted to your 'homepage' so you can keep up to date. I think it could be possible to do the same for a forum (that might get a bit spammy-happy) but it could be possible to tag individual threads.
I'm not certain if it will be a success, seems weird to be like they're trying to reinvent the wheel.
I've just seen Opera Unite, I'm quite impressed. I can see application uses for this in my work, I could gain full access to live to server files or files on my terminal without having to upload them all the time, which could be handy for accessing them at home or on the move.

Re: Whos still here
Unfortunately Wave doesn't work on Opera (yet) so I have to open Firefox to use it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's faster in Chrome, the WebKit JavaScript engine is the fastest around.
I think Opera Unite is a nice idea and it probably hasn't been given enough credit but it's little use to me. I'm a server monkey and my desktop system is already my server.
