id sold to Bethesda

My initial reaction was "Oh shit!" but actually it sounds like they really wanted this move. I hope this gives them the freedom they need. Admittedly I haven't played much id stuff since Quake 3 but I've always liked them.

that blows.

What I'm getting from this is that id felt like the had to shed its independence to compete.

I think they could have done well enough if they'd just had a faster release rate for their games.
they're good...but they take ages.

I haven't been impressed at all by bethesda.
hopefully what ever philosophy they follow doesn't pass to the id staff.

I dont think their Identity will be lost.

but ID was pretty much the beacon to indy dev houses.
They appeared strong creatively and appeared to hold their own in the landscape.
now that's over.

hopefully Valve doesnt sell out.

I thought bioware had got bought by EA not too long ago.

They did, now they are getting merge

though to be fair it's more Mythic folding into Bioware than any 50:50 deal.

Bethesda is making the idtech engine exclusive to them.

On one hand I'm thinking....

wow that's such a dick move.

on the other hand I'm thinking....

Thank god! Maybe Bethesda can start making games that DONT SUCK now that they have a proper engine.

Oblivion sucked doggy assholes.
And the only reason it got much praise in the first place was because it was one of the few titles available in the early life time of the "next-gen" systems. It had no competition.

I'd forgotten about this deal when I heard that the engines for RTCW and ET:QW had been open sourced. Maybe it won't be so bad.

Anybody play Rage?
Did it suck?

it looked brilliant in terms of visuals.
but beyond that I couldn't find anything to hold on to that made me want to give it try.
