We are running a little faster today. Aura's not been hosted on it the whole time but the old tin can was approaching its 5th birthday and having been struck by lightning more than once, I felt it was time for a replacement. It's not the small low-powered machine I was hoping for (couldn't afford to order any parts) and it's not exactly a speed demon either at just 1.6GHz but it is a new machine, it is 64-bit and we've gained 500MHz plus very many Gigabytes. Not bad for a freebie.

I can't remember how much RAM the old machine had. I think it was 512MB but it might have been 1GB. This thing only has 512MB. We could buy some more but the system reports that we're only using half of it so no rush. :D

:P

When I said it was a new machine, I really do mean that. Despite the speed, it's only a year old. It has a Celeron 420, which is one of Intel's slow-but-modern Core-based CPUs, hence the 64-bit capability. It also has an ASUS motherboard (I forget which one) with PCI Express slots and such.

so chewi,
do you have a picture of what aura looks like?

Maybe I could ask Richard to take one. There's actually a drinks fridge directly opposite.

woo a drinks fridge ... stick it in there ... it will cool it far better!

Never knew the celron was a core based i thought it was just a single core processor

It is single core but Intel's Core "microarchitecture" includes those too. The Celerons have been based on various different designs over the years.

Tell me what sort of RAM is has and I may have some for you. Think I've got some 333mhz DDR. Tis a gig, I think.

That's very generous of you but I can't tell you what kind it is. Maybe Richard could have a look. If it doesn't have a label, he could at least tell me exactly which motherboard it is. It's only a year old though so I think it's much more likely to be DDR2.
