need to rip a ps1 game....
somebody let me borrow ps1 copy of ff7.
thing with borrowing is, you have to give it back.
I need to rip it.
I remember trying to do this years ago and it didnt work.
somthing about not being able to copy certain parts of the disk.
anybody know anything that definitely works without issue?

I don't think there's actually any copy protection on the discs themselves. The problem is getting the burnt CDR to boot. I used to have a special device that plugged into the back of the PS1. Together with a spring, which fooled the machine into thinking the lid was still closed, it would do the initial boot from a legit disc before giving you the chance to swap the discs around and start the game.
The principal is actually the same for the PS2 but swapping the discs is a hell of a lot harder because the drive isn't so accessible. A simple spring isn't sufficient and it's not really worth the hassle unless you're interested in homebrew stuff.
Of course, if your console is modded, then none of this is an issue.
P.S. I'm not a pirate (anymore), I just happen to know this stuff.

No, you shouldn't download the PC version. It's an incompatible piece of shit written for Windows 95 and 98, tops, and meant for a select few video cards. And Eidos shut down the support message board for the game recently, demodding me and kicking me to the curb, despite the fact that people still posted there. And I'd been mod since like 2001. Fuckers. They closed it up as soon as I drew attention to myself in the staff forum, dissing Eidos for being such a shitty publisher for years.
Since you're using an emulator, most any ISO creating program should work fine, including ISO Buster. Alcohol 120 has specific settings for Playstation disc ISOs, which may help if you do come across a modded PS1 or 2 later on and decide to play it there.
