Toshi dragged me along to watch it, I didn't particularly like it. He did though, I thought alot of the songs and such where funny, maybe i really just don't like musicals.

So none of you other than Les have actually seen it?

I really liked it, but Helena Bonham Carter's voice did irritate me at times, although she did a good job overall as Mrs. Lovett. Sure, most of them aren't really "Broadway" material (Bonham Carter, Depp, Rickman) but I don't think that's what Burton/Sondheim was really going for. What they lacked in singing they definitely made up in with acting.

The beginning was bland to me as well, but it really began to pick up more towards the middle of the movie. And Alan Rickman, what a delightfully slimly Judge he played.

Overall, the acting was great, the visuals were dark and gritty (that's good), and it was surprisingly bloody. Tis what I like.

I actually quite liked Bonham carter, that boy Toby was a tad annoying but he was meant to be i suppose.

It's definately not a bad film, just not my usual cup of tea.

saw it just recently. I liked it.
but if it wasnt a musical the run time for the movie would be 15 minutes and lots of th cooler visuals would be left out.

still I think theyre might have been a bit too much music.
I dunno, they had a song for everything.
I dunno if thats how musicals are supposed to run. but I had it in my head that you could just sing the key parts.

anyway, it made it clear to me that Burton is a visual genius.

They actually cut songs out of the movie to cut down on time.

Sweeny was originally on Broadway.

It's more of a traditional musical in the sense that it's mostly sung.
