I got anothe HM this week.

Its got Requiem #5 in it.
3 was awsome but im puttin og reading 5...partly cuzz Im still pissed about missing #4

anyway, books got some other stuff in it.

One about a guy called "the actor" and him being father to a child, taking him to a park, bonding with the kid and everything...then the baby needs changing.

so the rest of the comic is about his trip home and how we wants to be a good father and such.

then he and the baby finally get home.

this is where he goes to the mirror and and washes is face (off) and underneath reveals is real face (a clown), you find out he's killed the mother, he's no relation to the kid at all.
and then....its time to "Change the baby.."
[end comic]

its awsome
twisted...but awsome.

especially since at the end, "changing the baby" is still unclear.
a: it could mean, he's gonna mutilate the poor kid.
b: he was so intent on being a good father through the whole comic...it could mean he's going to make some psycho changes to the poor kid.
c: OR...it could mean he's just gonna change the kids diaper...

Requiem 5
well, I missed 4, maybe I'll track it down later.
but apparently the two leads have finally hooked up (as expected)
the male lead has some how contracted mutliple personalities and has become a traitor in this big ass underworld war.

I'm still unclear if he just merely switched sides or sort of declared independance from both tho. apparently it all happend in book 4 (sigh)

not much really happend tho.
but they did explore on of the characters that appeared for the first time in book 3 a bit more, and she's fucking hilarious.

she's a super politicly correct, male hating, undead ghoul, airship pirate captain, badass.

she takes the 'man' suffix out of the words human and woman. whenever she says either word.

If you're so P.C., why do you dress like a hooker?

You mean why am I wearing the costume of a pelvic laborer?

I'm actually making a statement. Reminding men what they're being deprived of becuase of their patriarchal opression of Wo.

this chick would be kinda hot....If she had a nose.

Wolf Captured
By Jane Lindskold

I've liked the series, but I hadn't kept track of it's progress, I'm delighted to find out that two more are available and saddened that the 6th book is the last.

The story of our wolfish wild-child, Lady Blysee, or Firekeeper to her friends, continues as she gets kidnapped to a far off land. This new land is way different to magic hating Hawk Haven (Bright Haven or whatever it's called this week) or magic is great, super fun town, New Kelvin. The Royal, or Wise as they call them, beasts are worshipped and revered her, as apperantely connections to the 'deities', Old magic is frowned upon they do worship magic, although it seems in a much diluted form.

Animals is there culture seem to be able to divine events and are asked for omens and such. Communication is however most difficult as humans and beasts have differing ideas on things. When they learn about Firekeeper (Firekeeper can speak with animals cause she was raised by wolves) they are most intrested so they bash her over the head and away she goes.

Anyway, from the moment you hear the stuff about mythical shapeshifters (they have some fruity name for it) the entire book is one giantic telegraphed punch. If you've ever watched saturday morning cartoons you know what's coming, she has the chance to become everything she's ever wanted. But, she'll not go through with it, to save that fucking unicorn and Tiamat will run off two seconds later, stupid fucking dragon, that Dungeon Master was a real prick.

She meets with the voice from her dreams in previous books. He confirms her parentage which isn't that big a shock as ole King Tedric figured that out like in Book 1, crafty old bastard. She ofcourse saves the day and unravels a nefarious plot from within the establishment again.

I do so love the way the writter had all the animals talking though, the meeting with the Packs of the Islands, the old stories 'Will you follow me, as I hunt the trail of a tale of a time long since past ?' is and the stuff with Truth the fortune telling jaguar, was pretty good.

Blind Seer is like the king of own, he hasn't got the kill count he racked up in the first coupla books. But he did beat the crap out of a wolf called Dark Death, who was fairly badass, I mean that duce was pretty hardcore ready to die on command after that. Blindy's little wolfisms are awesome, reminds me of Old Sage Brush, an old blind fox from the Run series, one minute he's like the ulitmate layabout the next he's all like sage, wise words and cutting-through-the-bullshit man.

But yea, enjoyable simply for the animal interaction, the Wise Beasts are cool, the shifters where pretty fucking weird, world saved, next!

MechWarrior Dark Age: Dragon Rising
Isla Bick

Isla is the new House Kurita writter it seems, her last 3 books have all been either direct Kurita or about them in some way. I want to like her books, I really do, they add a new element to the mechwarrior books, she writes what she knows (hence the large amount of forensics and detective work, I think she was a criminal psychologist or something) which is always good. They are well written, complex, full of plot twist and largely free of the same old crap that's been written about Kurita. Heck, the book even ends on a huge down note which is soo fresh.

But if you hadn't read 'Daughter of the Dragon' like a week before this, prepare to be fucking confused more than once. Now normally if your writting a book series you atleast make an attempt to explain what the fuck happened in the last book as a recap or something cause it's been like a year since I read that book. Really I could have just lifted my copy of DotD off the shelf and read it soo maybe it's my bad.

Now, I've never been a Kurita fan, the Dracs can go die in a fire for all I card or so I thought. I think Kurita need Loren Coleman, cause he's the only one that can restore them in my eyes (as he did with CapCon and Anatasia Kerensky) cause some of the characters I now are complete wastes of space in my eyes.

Katana Tormark, is a samurai, was like Governor of Northwind (president of planet pretty much), led the Dragon's Fury (terrorist group) quite succesfully I might add until it was assimilated into it's long suspected parent nation, the Draconis Combine. Where upon she was risen to the rank of WARLORD. But apparently she writes in a diary like a 15 year old girl and is a ditsy bitch, example 'OMG lolz rofl today I like, totally woke up, it was awesome' (caution: may be exagerrated). Also the fact that she is a lesbian, which had been fairly clear had been thrown out the window, bar one brief mention of Tori (her dead lover) in a off-handed statement of people who'd died lately.

Warlord Toranga, appears to really get a good rap this book, he's the smartest man alive, no one ... NO ONE can forsee the shit he's up too, despite having one of the best intellegence outfits in the universe. So, he's fucking smart. His plans, as far as I can tell after reading the book, are somewhat random that all work out in the end. Oh yeah though he's a gay sexual predator that can't keep it in his pants for shit.

Co-Ordinator Vincent Kurita (Emperor) appears to actually become badass in this book, seriously he's the only 'good' character that even seems to improve as time goes on. Now, he's always been a smart bastard, but he is mocklingly refered to as 'the peacock' and never taken very seriously but ultimately it seems to have been a complete wast of time, which is to be fair prehaps a really great way of showing us that he was actually just like a Peacock as it was all for show.

Now, all of this wouldn't have made a bad book, wouldn't have made it great by any means but heck it's the Dracs, it's going to have a load of untranslated or more often half-translated Japense in there (hey, I don't know how to speak the language in a book, that's not annoying at all, no). Infact as it's written it's not even bad. Pity it's like a subplot, I swear more time is spend on this two guys chasing a serial killer across space and this assasian dude named Jonathon , (who likes oiling himself up and thinking of Katana ,whislt plotting to rape, toture and kill her btw) that on any of the actual elements of the story.

I'm still not sure who the fuck he is, or what the fuck those to colomubo motherfuckers where at, cept that someone one of them was the bounty hunter. The Latent sexual overtones where way to heavy for a book of this kind, I think it's great that she is always trying somthing new .. but it's MECHWARRIOR Darkage, not some fucking S&M porno or an episode of CSI (which I can't stand btw).

The entire book was only worthwhile for Teddy Kurita's attack on '
Fortress Republic' and to see (although the last book showed that the kid gloves where off) how far the Republic are gonna go to defend the fortress.

Awh well, roll on 'Masters of War' and the return of Michael Stackpole.

BoyZero

Just read a kick ass piece about about a street kid and his gang who hustle for cash.
nothing too interesting...until ihe phased through a wall (and some alternate reality) after being chased by the cops.

They haven't gone on to fully explain this power yet.
But the guy has a flash back pretty much of himself playing with some toy soldiers as a kid. massive battles etc.

While he's a child he's explaining whats going on with the toys(and it looks like the movie 300), it seems to run parallel to an event that took place in his childhood envolving an abusive father. both the part with the father and the part with the great battle get edge of seat interesting...l.

then the damn thing ends in a cliffhanger.
and my subscription is up too.

I'm gonna have to hit a magazine stand or or maybe try and buy this book straight out.

The artis has an amazing art style.
Its like Peter Chung mixed with Joe Mad! an odd combo, but it works very well. especially when the very gets warped as things get close to the "camera".
Not to mention that the whole thing is done in shades of grey with the exception of dominate lights, blood. the residue left over from the alternate reality, and red face cards.

Bunch of the original Conan stuff.

So far I'm impressed, theirs a lot more depth to the whole thing and even the main character than the movies and comics let on.

the writing is pretty good, a little repetitive at times tho, but the guy knows how to build solid characters.

so far I've read 3 of 18 stories.
I was starting to notice some seemingly racial things in the stories.I figured I might have just been me, but more and more my eyebrows raised on a few lines.

so I had to find out...
turns out the authors stance on race is bit wacky, he says some pretty ugly things.
It was the 30's even.
and besides he's over 70 years dead.

fortunately very few of the uglier things carry over in the stories...at least the Conan stories anyway. and even odder. he seems to create some pretty decent black characters with good values..its just some of the physical descriptions of them that get in the way.

Anyway, I plan to enjoy the rest of the stories and let that be that.
hopefully these character descriptions wont get any worse

(small gripe)
the one thing that really bothers me is his Association with Set as a snake god and even being a snake.

when the truth is...
nobody knows what the fuck Set was.(rare feaky dog thing and anteater thing are the best guesses)
but he was clearly NOT a snake, as he spent his nights in combat with one (apep/apothis).
(/small gripe)

He took on several aspects of the snake god in later eyptian mythology this may have been where the error was made
