Sony is just losing out on all their exclusives. Even MGS4 will probably eventually head over to Xbox in a Substinence (sp?) remake. Even if FFXIII does go to Xbox, there's still a lot of fanboys here in Japan that would rather buy the PS3 than an 360. It's lame but probably true. In other news, the Wii is the top selling console this last month, outselling the 360 by 90,000 units (280,00 to 190,000 I believe). The PS3 was at like 138,000. However the PS2 still sold like 230,000 units which will keep Sony's head above water for a little bit while they restructure.
By the way, did you guys know that Sony just cut about 3,000 jobs from their gaming division in order to finance a price cut to the PS3 system? That's probably coming this summer, just as kids get out of school and need something to do.
Also, the DS sold about 508,000 units compared to the PSPs 188,000. Kind of funny cause at the high school I teach at and around town, I see people ONLY playing the PSPs (boys at least). I see old people, kids, and girls playing the DS a lot.
Nintendo was last with the Gamecube, but they're still around. The PS3 will pick up and be profitable in another 2 years I bet.

So thats 3000 people who cant afford to buy a ps3, even at a price cut.
They should have found another way....
I have an idea on how to finance a price cut.
GET BETTER GAMES!

My friend who works at game was telling me how since the launch they haven't sold out of PS3s, they've always had stock in store. It's the only recent console where you could just go in on launch day anytime and get one. So I hope there were people who bought them to sell on ebay like with every other console, because they'll have wasted money this time around.

Supposedly those 3,000 jobs include all their retail reps.
EDIT: Oh and Final Fantasy series is pretty much a non-factor at this point. Just throwin that out there.

Remember, that FFXIII has always been cross-platform (Ps3 and phone I think), this may just been some clever manipulation of the facts in order to create hype or generate some news so people don't forget them or as a public display as a threat to get something out of Sony that they want.
Anyways Square-enix are not above about getting your hopes up just to stab you in the fucking heart (see: FF7 Tech Demo). I think much like many things I won't believe it till they offically delcare and I can see the box.
