Like, whoa..
Re: Like, whoa..
I think I was more of a grammar nazi when I was 14-15. I was a strange child.

Re: Like, whoa..
I still lurk in from time to time, I just got nothing to say.
It's fun to look back. I'm not nearly as aggressive as I was, I don't swear as much (although I probably do IRL) and I'm not nearly as mouthy, I tend to be pretty quiet but, I guess there are still glimpses of it.
For example, I did a 15minute verbal tirade in the pub, of why I didn't like someone then just to contradict myself, I finished up by saying I'm a grumpy git and he wasn't all that bad really. My mates thought it was hilarious though, so I suppose it wasn't totally in vain. Mostly just mellowed out now though.
Where was I ?
Oh... Aura, yeah, I guess it's kind a sad that's it's not as active as it once was (not that it was ever that busy) but people move on, face book and twitter give people access to vast quantities of drivel every 12 seconds, kinda need a driving reason to visit a forum, some shit to discuss. I guess, nostalgia is kind of our primary draw, not that's it's a bad thing, just unlikely to bring in new blood which any medium needs to keep the wheel turning.

facebook, twitter, blogs...
I think role of forums on the internet is now mostly dealing with "help" rather than discussion.
Still I like to run game related questions/ideas by here from time to time.
but lately I've been too busy working on them to talk about them...
Not a fan of the whole openess of these social networking sites.
I say something to 1 person, everyone(my contacts AND theirs) gets notified about it.
Chatter seems interesting, but I'm not sold yet.

And fast-forward to 2015.
I have a feeling that this is gonna get bumped every few years, lol.

Re: Like, whoa..
Well, every few years or so is still somewhat consistant, so at least there's that!

Member Aura? Member forums? Member thread necroing?
I member, Oh I member.
Weird that we had the same impulse a day apart as opposed to the normal 3-4 months

Re: Like, whoa..
I know it's unthinkable but I'm actually considering calling time on this place. phpBB 3.0 is about to be EOL'd and as well as updating to 3.2, I'd ideally need to migrate it to PostgreSQL to host it on the device I have in mind. It's a lot of effort for a bit of nostalgia.
Re: Like, whoa..
It was a very strange coincidence that I happened to find this place again right when it may be put to rest. This is like looking into a time machine for me, Aura was literally one of the first online message board I ever joined. Funny how I managed to get back here and see your post about possibly pulling the plug Chewi.
Re: Like, whoa..
While I'll probably put up a page to the effect of "Aura woz 'ere", I'll also send out a mass mail to let people know so they can pay their respects.

Re: Like, whoa..
I can host it.
But I can't decide if just letting it die or migrating to a discord server might be a better option.

Re: Like, whoa..
Hosting isn't a problem at all, it's just the ongoing upkeep.
Re: Like, whoa..
I've decided it's going to stay. Gentoo Linux was going to remove the phpBB package as no one was looking after it. Even though I haven't been using the package, I thought that would be a shame so I've stepped up. This place will be useful to test it with. I'll upgrade to 3.1 or maybe 3.2 soon.

Hurray!
I'd like to say you won't regret this, but you will..... you will....

Hurrah indeed.
That said, that Discord seems like a great fit.
