started it last night at like 2am

Id like to get it into source.
but all the tutorials for getting a custom model in are so fucking retarded.

models comes in a 2020

the budget is 4000 for multiplayer
and 10000 for singlerplayer.

so ive got room to ad more detail if i want, not including normal mapping.

so theirs some potential here.

the arms guards are just temp atm. matter of fact theyre just shins flipped up on the arms.

theirs actually an entire face behind the visor.
i may delete it tho if its never going to be seen anyway.

probably depends on if i can get it in the damn game or not.
the rig is already set to go.
but theirs lots of little steps to gettin things in to the game, and no tutorial ive found covers them all that well.

The legs and boots are near final.

still gotta do the arms.

added guns.
gotta replace one of them with a plasma torch (light saber).
I'm thinking the hilt of it might look gunblade like.

few minor tweaks here and there and i might be ready to start texturing tomorrow.

I dunno why I keep fantasizing about remaking this game all the time.
I already contacted the original author asking permission and it was basically denied.

he gave me some bullshit about not wanting to remake it unless "it could be done right" and it could only be done right if her were funding it 100% "out of his own pocket" and it would take like "3 million dollars" to do that. and so that it'll likely never get done.

I thought it was a kinda fucked up answer to be honest.
especially considering he'd already previously given permission to some other guys not even a whole year before and they failed to get anywhere due to something as gay as team conflict.

I'll probably just do some small fan game anonymously
so like if you ever see something related....and its created by some guy with a terrible pseudonym..

its [s]not[/s] me

texturing...
I just jumped forward to texturing.
the textures looks cartoony. I didn't intend it, but i kind of like it.
I've got more work to do on them though before i can settle.

I tried a bump map. it went pretty badly, so i deleted the whole thing.
I may try a normal map later on if I decide i need some extra detail.

modeling..
I keep putting the arms off.
I can tell theyre going to be something that either makes or breaks the model.

animation..
when I get there, I thought it might be fun to mock/match the idle animation from the old game. the little guy was never still, he bounced like he was in a fighting game instead of a 2d shooter.

other...
I'm thinking about making an ant mutant.
but if i make one then im gonna wanna make a video and so far my track record for videos is like 0 for 5

tbh his story was fucking wack, his excuses sound like he just doesn't want anyone fucking with his shit.

I always wanted to go more hardcore on the armour than just a few plates, the origin art pic on the menu was very predator like, I'd have liked to see a more beefy and armour like option, not unlike the elementals of battletech.

Or teknoman-esque supermetal knights or guyver's bio boosted armour. I think there has been some awesome random armoured guys and the abuse suit just same a little tame to me.

Battletech 'Toad' Elemental suit.

I pulled it strait from here...
mostly...those shins just don't look good in 3d.

I always liked the tameness of it.

it always seemed more like tactical gear to me.

I think i did read somewhere recently that the who entire concept for the game was supposed to be like predator vs aliens anyway. which explains why the mutants look the way the look and the choice of color on the armor.

I think I also remember reading that Doom was originally supposed to be an aliens based game too.

the guy was talking silly.
but I think i figured out a work around.

remember Graal?
before it was Graal it was "Zelda64 Online" I played it a bit.

then Nintendo came in and said "Yo bitch, Hyrule is my turf"
So then Zelda64 Online was immediately taken down.

and Graal...was in its place.

all the sprites were pretty much recolored and made to look similar enough.
and then instead of being link they had a character customization mode now.
choose a head, choose a body, choose a color....

there was nothing to stop anyone from choosing a "green tunic, and elf hat" tho.

true,

I just think could go a bit more hardcore with it, conventional wisdom is to protect the vitals, so head and chest (mostly ingoring the legs which is just as vital.

I understand the slimline outlook I think it can be done but still look like it could take a hit from an ant.

Hmm this is interesting. The bad news is that the site that hosted the files for the Linux/Unix/OSX version went down too. The good news is that the files are still on Gentoo Linux's mirrors.

http://gentoo.virginmedia.com/distfiles/ab...atafiles.tar.gz
http://gentoo.virginmedia.com/distfiles/ab...l-0.7.0.tar.bz2
http://gentoo.virginmedia.com/distfiles/ab..._debian.tar.bz2

However, I do wonder why both sites ended up going down.

EDIT: Just read about the different versions on Wikipedia. It's very confusing. I think the data files I posted above are only for the shareware version. I take it fRaBs was the whole game. You can also download the original DOS and Windows versions from Home of the Underdogs. I'm guessing these are the full versions.

http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=18

EDIT EDIT: A mirrored copy of fRaBs! http://oldsite.plasmafire.org/component/op...fileinfo/id,12/

cool. I'll have to pack them all away somwhere.

I did manage to find one named frabs210
but i dont remember it starting out the way it does.
and theirs no net play option on the menu either.

EDIT: that last one(mirror at plasmafire) is different, but other than the title screen i dunno how.

EDIT AGAIN: underdogs took forever to get.
But its the Right one. all the startup screens and netplay and everything.

that teknoman armor might be tough to adapt.
it looks weird. like in the shoulders and crotch.
I still may try.

Bio Boost Guyver is totally doable tho.
So he's up next when Vrenna is done. gets next.

The video quality of this clip came out horrible.
but it should be a nice break from the boring standard pose

anyway i put the half life 2 rig to use.
its probably the best rig ive used to date. its really smart on handling where limbs and things are likely to naturally be in relation to whatever part of the body you moved.

it makes things go so much smoother.

i wasn't doing this seriously, and i haven't done anything else new since last time.
unfortunately i got other shit to do at the moment.

Definably going to have to make a short video with a script now tho.

VIDEO

maybe a half life mod is the way to go?

If I had the time, I'd code for this.
