MWHAHA i always thought it was Tee Fah too.
Tee fah works for me, but we pronounce Barret like that thing chicks put in their hair. I'm glad there's a better way to say it, i really didn't like calling him that.
As for that fish thing, we say it right because we DON'T say it french

Pronouncing "-et" as "-ay" is pronouncing it French, and every American I've heard say it, says "-ay". Which confuses me because I would've imagined we'd be closer to that pronounciating being right next to France.
Richard American? What on earth makes you think that? I've been best friends with him since I was little. Meaning we used to live near each other.

I've always called her "Tee-fah," simply because that what I felt flowed best. Plus, "Ty-fah" sounds totally stupid. Besides, Japanese names don't instantly become American just because the game or series gets released here. If I ever heard someone call Sanosuke from Kenshin "Say-no-sook" I'm quite certain that some sort of grotesque violence would immediately follow.

That's true, but it would mean we'd have to say Cloud as "NNGGGCLOUDAHH!"

barret = burrito
When they translate a game I think they should take a few more things into account.
they used to change whole storys
that was bad
they used to change whole names.
that can be justified in certain situations.
I think if you can justify changing a characters name then you can certainly justify changing somthing as small as a pronounciation.
it just seems like somthing any good translator would do. after all, language is his job.
Somtimes an original element just doesnt work out in a whole other country....on the other side of the planet.

I'd just like to add here that Hironobu Sakaguchi got absolutely no recognition in the credits for this movie. Sure, make a sequel movie using the characters, world, plot, and music based on his game, but don't give him any credit for it. That's asking way too much. I hate Tetsuya Nomura.
Ben wanted me to point out everything I saw wrong with this movie...but I don't know if I have the energy.

after the failed FF:TSW, Sakiguchi got fucked by Square-Enix.
Nomura owns and it's not his fault that SE smell and show absolutely no loyality to a man acreditted with almost single handedly saved them from extinction back in 80's.
But he cost them ~120mil you can see their point.

In animation terms. TSW > AC.
Some of, if not all of, the animation in Advent Children is appauling. I get the feeling they concentrated too much on what the actual characters look like, but forgot to give them character.
So you can bitch about that if you like.

I hadn't really thought about it but I think I agree. I found with TSW, I sometimes kinda forgot that I was watching an animation.

hell i've showed that movie to people and had them say... there's something funny about this movie, but i can't put my finger on it. After i tell them it's all CG, they just about die. Very amusing.
