I decided I was going to play with this. So I installed the 64bit version of windows on my old IDE drive. Windows actaully takes longer to load, which may be something to do with the old drive, I don't know. But I proceeded to install Far Cry and add the 64bit patches.

I noticed straight away the difference in textures and draw distance. It was a little harder to figure out if the AI is actually better or not, but I've decided it must be, because I don't remember the AI actually working in squads.

they added steam and dust everywhere.

they should do 64bit patches for lots of games.

like quake 3
I bet that game could look pretty good with a big model/texture update.

I play DOOM in 64-bit but that doesn't make it look any better. It just runs a fraction faster. But I think you knew that. The version of DOOM I play is graphically enhanced but that has nothing to do with the fact that I play it in 64-bit.

Right. But that's DOOM. And this is Far Cry.

From reading about, it seems that only Far Cry has been given a 64bit patch which includes new textures and physics.

That's nice. Does that work in 32bit windows as well?

http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/Fak ... _Mod;77368

doesn't look like it re does the entire game.
mostly just character models and skins for them.

"This mod has some new stuff like an automated installation,New Models,New Textures, more variation,
Heavily reworked scripts/scenes for fully dynamite soundtracks and a lot more."

Id try it myself.
but this pc can just barely run vanilla HL2 on default settings.

There are things like this for all sorts of games from DOOM to Unreal Tournament to Descent FreeSpace 2. I didn't think they'd do Half-Life 2 already though.

This isn't a 64bit patch. The FarCry one is still unique as far as I can tell.

The shader they put on the head cluster of the model is probably fucked up.
real easy to fuck those up.

and then you know the whole "next gen" obsession with lots of Bloom and the color brown.

VG Cats is truth

And after installing that mod, the only difference I've noticed is you can get the female support character to wear silly and/or suggestive clothing

also the screenshot with the stubble guy. I think his model was fine as it was. It's more the background you can see there that impresses me.

Also, bloom is last gen, isn't it? Thought it was HDR that's the new thing. Which, HDR is very, very good.
