So I bought a new Mac that has the dual core processor and can use both Windows and the MAC OSX . . . I got 2 GB ram and was thinking of getting a game such as the new Counterstrike to play on it. What are the system specs for this game and what should I allocate on the Window's partition in order to run this game smoothly?

Sweet. Thanks for the info. Yeah, I was thinking about source. Do a lot of people still play the original? I'm wondering if I should just get the old one or buy the new one. What do you think?

I dunno. I don't play either of them. never did.
I just happen to be studying the source engine at the moment.

I remember Mik saying somthing about CS: Source in comparison to regular CS tho.

Your machine will play them fine. I'm not sure how big your hard drive is but I'd allocate at least 20GB. I gather a lot of people still play the original. My brother played Source for a while but then went back to the original. I gather he's got a life instead now though.

Sweet. My new HD will have 250GB of space, so no problem. But if I get the first one it will take a lot less. I remember playing it on my old machine that only had 11 GB of space total and it was fine (in a intel celeron processor no less). I might just get the old one to save space and RAM, and also play on maps I'm familar with. However, wouldn't I be pinging like crazy being in Japan and playing on US servers? Or with my 50MBps DSL connection would it be fine?

Heh even a Celeron is heaps fast enough for the old one. People seem to forget just how old it is. The minimum requirement for the original Half-Life was a Pentium 133 if you had a 3D card and a Pentium 166 if you didn't. I first saw a Pentium 133 in 1996.

Not sure about the lag. I think there'll always be a fair degree of lag over that kind of distance, nomatter how fast your connection is. It'll probably depend more on the quality of your connection than the raw speed.

I reckon around 100-200ms, if you have a good connection, which will be noticable during high combat. Source had (I haven't played in a while) to have really laggy hitboxes anyway so it shouldn't effect you that much.

I remember back in the day I learnt to play TFC and CS with 500ms-600ms and I still killed people but It was difficult.

Now I just have to find a place to get Microsoft XP in English over here. Do you reckon it's pretty cheap now that Vista has come out?
