silver accounts are free.
gold accounts cost.

if you ever paid for a gold account via credit card.
that card will permanently be attached to your profile....theirs NO WAY to remove it.

I used a card way back in the xbox1 days for my account. (to get a full year)

since then I've been using the prepaid cards. (and I'd been pretty consistent about it for at least another year...up till now)

my prepaid gold time has recently expired.
I knew it would by now.

but I figured no harm, I can do with silver for a while....

wrong.

"your account has been suspended due to a problem with your payment method."

This message then takes you to a place were you need to "fix" the problem.
in my case, thats an out of date card. So I figured I'd just remove the card and be on my merry silver account way.

wrong.

you CANT remove the card.
and if you don't "fix" the problem you cant even log on to live.

The only way to "FIX" the problem is to add yet another card to the account...which will also be permanently tied to the account.

or go get another prepaid.
(at 5am on a Tuesday?!)

in the end what it all means is once you go gold via credit/bank card...their is no way to downgrade back down to silver. you're pretty much forced into maintaining a gold subscription with that account....forever.

Now I really don't mind getting a prepaid card, but i really didn't plan on going back up to gol until I had a game I knew I would be playing online constantly.

(two worlds, which doesn't release till the end of next month, and even then I'm not even sure I'm gonna buy it)

looks like I'm SOL till I drag myself down to a store and go buy a new prepaid...which i shouldn't have to do.

OR

make a new account, (which i already have, but thats besides the point) that wont have any of my achievements, gamer score, (neither are too important to me) or any of my friends list (which is very important, especially considering i wanted to at least TRY the new msn features)

anybody get strange messages from Canis_ Aureus or Canis_Jackal....its me.

I think a story like that is worth reporting to somewhere like The Register. There's really no excuse for it.

My account was suspended too, because the card I used was cancelled ages ago and the renewal obviously failed, but my 360 still said i had a gold membership and that it went through ok. The website says it's suspended, though.

Have you tried the website? (Silly question,I know) and you could always e-mail them.

I would call tech support before jumping to that conclusion. I have a hard time believing they overlooked that since everything else on Live works so well. It's possible I suppose, but it just seems a bit absurd.

I looked around the net abit to see if i was missing something, and found two cases where people had the same problem and had called tech support.

ofcourse today this is the least of my problems...
today I may be calling tech support for something else.

Joe.... you've obviously forgotten my frustrations with calling Live support.

I just though what you said was very pathetic.

Anyway. I logged onto XBL today and got the gay suspended message, then read the terms and conditions (through pure boredom) Everything here is mentioned in the TOS. Serves us right for not reading a 20 page contract before we eagerly start playing live. I took wanted to try out these new MSN features and get a hold of some of the new demos and such.

As I was reading, it turns out that trial cards and prepaid cards actually do automatically downgrade to silver. But back in the old Xbox days, you had to tie it to a credit card, even if you had a prepaid card (like the one I had bought from the shop) which I found to be fucking infuriating.

Silver is a load of bollocks anyway.

Kaos, you can still use that profile on your 360 to collect achievements and such. So you shouldn't need to create a new account.

So, what's the big deal?

By the way, I just added another card to my account, one that works. The old card is labelled as "removed"

the big deal is that I really dont care about achievements.
as much as i do other things....like browsing xbl....

picking up the new double dragon trial and seeing if its worth it.

the only way to get the removed "label" (cuzz it still remains attached to the account) for a card is to add another card.
I don't want to use cards anymore at all period.
id rather just pick up time from one of the many stores I'll be at anyway...
