Console Wars Renewed?
Microsoft pulled no punches yesterday during the European launch of the PlayStation 3. Deciding that deviousness was the order of the day, they had agents in both London and Paris throwing monkey wrenches into the works at Sony-sponsored events that included:
* Handing out chairs to the weary fans waiting in the PS3 lines that were printed with a link to this site on the back of them.
* Sending SMS messages to game journalists saying "The Xbox 360 team wishes you a good night."
* Driving boats past the Sony event adorned with "XBOX 360 HEARTS YOU" signs.
* Arming themselves with whistles and blowing them from rooftops to drown out the noise of Sony PR.
I'd have loved to seen some of that.
dont get me wrong tho.
I'd have loved to see Crash Bandicoot outside of Nintendo HQ asking wtf was up with the N64 format.
I cant belive i actually remember that...had to be over 10 years ago.

The XIII thing is more than a rumor. A French Sony exec said that the exclusivity of FFXIII was being discussed, along with several other games.
The black 360 however, is still a rumor I believe. There's evidence to go along with it, but it's still a rumor. That being said, I hope they don't go through with it. It'd be a clear indication that Microsoft has no idea who their competition actually is. Nintendo. Not Sony. You drop the price on the existing console to something within the Wii's range, and Nintendo all of a sudden has a big problem in America. And with all the Japanese devs now making games for the 360, they'd get more of a foothold in Japan as well.

People will go wherever the games are . . . the GOOD games. At this point it doesn't matter about the systems anymore. I think Nintendo will stay profitable by releasing older game son their Virtual Console (they must be making a KILLING on that . . . like 500% profit for selling a 1mb file for $7-10). Plus their systems are cheap and there are tons of profitable accessories and of course the DS Lite as well.
I'm giving up on the PS3 . . . and probably won't buy a 360. I'm fine sticking with my PS2, DS Lite, and maybe a Wii for another 3-4 years until the next new console cycle comes around. There's still a shitload of games out there to buy and play. Especially with the backwards compatibility of each of those systems. Tons of GBA, PSOne, and Gamecube games I still want to play.

3 or 4 years?
shit..they'll probably stop in 3 or 4 months.
why keep production going for your old console when you want everybody to buy your new one?
its like shooting yourself in the foot.

Of course. I mean, the games will have stopped being made, however, I have a list of about 20 PS2 games, 20 GC games, and a good 10-20 DS/GBA games I still want to buy. I'm still working on the last ten or so I bought . . . (okay, more like 5-6 games), but point is, it will take me quite a while to beat 60 games. Not to mention all the old school games on the Wii if I buy that. I can buy all that stuff cheap and not spend the $1000 on a PS3, or $500 on the 360 (with the games and controllers of course).
True, but I can't wait 3 years for Metal Gear Solid 4. I waited a year for Snake Eater... Mind you, I already had the equipment to play it on.
I'm not playing games as much these days. Back into my un-gaming phase again. Might last a fair while, this.
