I seem to recall cartrages being better than CDs.... is my memory off?

maybe at the start but the potential for CD's was much higher, the cartridge technology was pretty much maxed out.

Cartridges were way faster and in the old days, they used to add random hardware enhanchments to some games but I don't know if they did that with the N64.

Munches Oddysee was brilliant. Then Oddword turned to EA for help with their next title. They wanted the marketing abilities of the giant, but instead, EA demanded some of the I.P rights and that fucked the makers off. So they've gone into film.

Cartridges are faster, yeah, but fuck, stereo > mono.

yeah, certainly but at the time no-one was certain CD's where the way to go, they where alot easier to break and stuff, although alot of dev companies did jump ship.

EA demanded some of the I.P rights

That seems to be standard operating proceedure

You think MIDI is mono only? It's certainly not! MIDI can actually sound quite good when you have a decent sample set to play with. The N64 probably wasn't capable of that though.

What really Killed odd world was the LACK of advertisment by EA

Its EA's policy that if The game in question isnt cross platform, then they dont care to advertise for it much.

The last Odd game was too much for PS2, as one of the devs answers to why it was an xbox exclusive was..."We couldnt get the thing to run on PS2 anyway"

So yeah, EA is at fault
but they dont take the blame all by themselves.

There was a hardware enchancement for the N64, it was meant to come out (Had there not been so many problems with it though... FF7 may of gotten put onto a n64.) but i think it was only ever released in Japan. Not many titles utilised it though

I remember that Ocarina of time was one heavy bloody cartidge and later you had that 'expansion pack' which came out during the Donkey Kong 64 period or was it pokemon stadium... gah so long ago.

solid state cartrages are great, and Nintendo at least has enough intelligence to continue to use them in their portable systems. Have you seen the cartrage size for the DS? Those things are about the size of a quarter, and they have more power then n64 cartrages did.

Oh, back on topic

Depends on if you're a fan of the Live environment or not, that's the 360's big draw. They freaking own the console online world

I'm no a fan, because there are no games on the x-box, live or not, that I'd like to play enough to get the console.

What kinda game is your thing?
Cuzz if your talking in general...
then theirs none on the ps3 nor the Wii either......possibly even PC.

I say this becuase, with the range of games the 360 currently has. If theirs nothing for you. then theirs diferently nothing on the other next gen consoles as theyve only just relseased last week. and aside from MMO's and RTS's the majority of game types seem to have moved to consoles.

@Xenoraven: No, the 360 is actually MISSING some of the features I labelled, but kay.

@Kaos, I know. EA refused to market it. But Odd says it was, they felt, also under marketed because they refused to give up IP rights.

I played that Gears of War last night. First ever time I'd played a 360. I must say, it looked fucking great. But.... It reminded me of that "Black" game that was released. Shiny graphics, cutting people up etc etc There you go, new game. Spend money on it.
