Downtime

Post by Chewi » Thu Aug 05, 2010 2:51 am

Just as things are starting to pick up, the fucking server blows up. There was a power cut of Sunday morning and something about it fried either the motherboard or the processor. Ended up buying half a new machine. Not an expense I was planning to make. :x Was a general nightmare getting up and running again too. I'll need to apply some better thermal paste either Thursday or Friday but we should stay up apart from that. I'll be getting a UPS to make sure this doesn't happen again. I actually have one already but they sent the wrong fucking one.

I remember the good old days when I managed to destroy the place, while only having access to some basic html and a colour palette (some how).

now it takes lightning strikes

Good news, folks. We now have a UPS. This one, to be precise. I was about to say how great it is when the whole damn system shut off instantly. But I think I know why, I had tested a power failure scenario a few minutes earlier. That had worked fine but it's supposed to shut the UPS itself off 5 minutes later. I didn't wait that long, assuming that the machine would send a message to say everything is okay now. I guess it didn't. :?
