It keeps turning up as a SQL database error or something like that. I've been trying to send a message to Mr. Chewi, but can't do it for the life of me. BTW, James, send me your new address again so I can send you something there.

Fixed it. It was due to an incompatibility with the new MySQL. I wouldn't be surprised if it crops up elsewhere. An IPB update would probably fix it all but that's not readily available to me. Still thinking of switching to phpBB3 when it's finished... (which it nearly is)

it was pretty easy to setup use, and has some nice features.
but skinning looked like a bitch so i didnt bother
it might be basic

but I think phpbbs defualt skin is the best defualt skin ive ever seen

Make anything look like web 2.0 and people will think it's great.

What is with the threadview? God. Honestly looks crap. Just depends what you can do with it, though. I'm now adamant that vB is the best software going

how to make anything look web 2.0

and I'm sorry but the $30 remark holds no water. Free is good and all, but when you want something good, you have to pay for it.

EDIT:

And that threadview is fucking horrible. I mean really fucking horrible. Hope you can change that around. The postbit should be left aligned!

You can, just haven't figure out how yet. There is a more basic oldschool skin called subsilver with the defualt package.

I actually got used to the thread view kinda like it, it's actually not dis-similar to a common idea for skins on vB a few years back. the right aligness was a bit annoying but I kinda got over it. VB it aligns top which I don't like either.

What they mean is that everyhting considered Web2.0 must have rounded corners. it's actually because doing it before was a pain in the ass. this doesn't use images to produce the effect but CSS which is as good as imo.

It's not so much the buttons as yes that's been common places since images became acceptable but tables etc which never really used to use these unless you put and unglodly amount of time into it.

Web 2.0 is the buzz term the equivalent to 'Next gen'
Web 1.0 Web 2.0
DoubleClick --> Google AdSense
Ofoto --> Flickr
Akamai --> BitTorrent
mp3.com --> Napster
Britannica Online --> Wikipedia
personal websites --> blogging
evite --> upcoming.org and EVDB
domain name speculation --> search engine optimization
page views --> cost per click
screen scraping --> web services
publishing --> participation
content management systems --> wikis
directories (taxonomy) --> tagging ("folksonomy")
stickiness --> syndication
vB is without a doubt a superior piece of kit, always has been. But PhpBB shouldn't be judged against them it's like putting sem-pro boxer in a fight against a lion one does it as a hobby, the other kills shit for survival.

I think it's come on leaps and bounds from 2.0 and it a legimate solution to the hobbist website admin.
