I have the regular F5D7050 right here. The driver (rt73usb) became part of Linux as standard recently but it's been included with Ubuntu for a long time so it should just work once you've put a wireless key into the network manager.

seems i had to downkoad some 128mb package and install that....
and now System->Administration->Hardware Drivers
is telling me about an update, where it didn't before.
edit: yeah, all good now. jello screen effects and all.

Oh cool. Generally speaking, each distro has its own way of doing things. NVIDIA provides the files on its site for the distros to use in their own way or for end-users if they happen to be using some obscure distro that doesn't support them. You should always try and let your distro handle things like installing drivers and programs if possible, otherwise you end up in uncharted territory. You got it working anyway and that's the main thing.
