Need some suggestions
My boyfriends little sister's 21st is on saturday. The theme is Gangster, it's meant to be an excuse for them to wear flapper dresses and suits i think as the 20's gear is making a comeback this season.
I'm thinking of going as a female asian gangster. This Red Steel (for the wii) sort of thing. I have this black chinese styled dress that's about knee height but has slits that go up....high...very high. which is a part of the problem. It looks silly with pants...no matter how tight... I have a lovely pair of PVC ones that would look good... but not at a family party.
So i'm thinking fishnets/tights with my knee high boots. Katana/toy gun.
So... i either have to sew this dress or go and find an alternative to wear under the dress...a shift isn't going to work... maybe bike shorts or something...

I second that.Chewi wrote:I don't think I can suggest anything but I want pictures regardless.
Les, you go to the most awesome parties.
Is that some kind of Aussie thing?
Nobody does theme parties here unless its Halloween, which all at the same time makes it NOT a theme party.

Do i go to some amazing parties?
You know alot of the time it's really freaking annoying this dressing up thing. But Shanti my old housemate LOVED to dress up... so every party we held was dress up.
Most of the balls are themed too. When i went to school all the formals had a dress up theme too. Mostly it's because we don't like it when people turn up in the most expensive "coolest" gear available... we like the idea of vintage...being creative and op-shopping for gear i suppose.
I think sometimes people just like to be silly i guess. We take dressing up seriously but only because it's for fun's sake.
We dont' do halloween... so i guess that makes up for it.
On a side note...i've been wanting to wear this dress for AGES... it's this lil thing I picked up at an Italian fashion house clearance emporian... it was $20 with some pretty fantastic tailoring. But... i don't get to go anywhere.... Not in bendigo anyway.

There were loads of themed things at university but I didn't bother most of the time. I can remember two particular occasions. For one, I thought I'd go as a samurai. I don't remember what the theme was, time machine or something. This involved me putting on my jujitsu gi (white suit) and buying a plastic sword. Pretty crap really. The funny part was when the lead singer of the band that was playing spotted me from the stage and shouted "We have a Jedi Knight in the audience!" On the other occasion, it was Hollywood heroes and villains. I was feeling lazy so I just dressed in my usual clothes and added some shades. There. Neo from The Matrix.
