I was looking for the NERV emblem on the side of the rocket. No such luck.

well, technically that's already happening though. machines are becoming more and more of a common thing in everyday life from computers to robots making our vehicles at factories, etc, etc.

The difference with those is they have no conciousness and do as they're told to. They can't work beyond their programming. Whereas the Terminator-esque SkyNet was an advanced AI, as we all know.

and you think machines won't become that sentient at some point eventually? if you do you're only kidding yourself. creating something like a computer (which has a brain to most standards), means it's eventually going to evolve the more we continue trying to add to what we already have. life so eloquently put, finds it's own way and it's not an if but a when it happens with machines at this point.

Not really. Machines think in 1's and 0's. No matter what level of technological evolution they attain, they can't think in anything else other than 1's and 0's. They need electricity. Computer components. A Robot is a computer connected to machinery. When it walks, it's walking because we've told it how to walk.

I won't doubt that machines will become smart. But this apocalyptic scenario you describe won't happen in my lifetime.

That's not so true. If we teach them how to learn then their potential capability is much greater. We have already seen this demonstrated at several basic levels.

to be fair i never said anything about apocalyptic stuff. i'm just saying, at this point it's only a matter of when it happens that machines and computers gain their own sentience. we may have created them but the more we make and add to existing technology is only evolving it. eventually it's going to evolve on it's own just like a creature of nature does. i mean hell, there's already computers that are in development that will be powered by actual brain wave patterns....meaning our own brains will be the keyboard and mouse in essence.
