so apparently there's a firefox 2 now

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I'm just wondering what it is exactly... an update? a whole new system?

I kinda like my firefox the way it is, so i don't really want to mess with it unless there's a real improvment here.

It's been out for a little while now. It's an important update like most browser updates. I don't use Firefox as my primary browser so I haven't really noticed the differences but it looks pretty much the same on the face of it. Go for it.

Spell checker, phishing protection etc etc. It's worth it. I mean, you should always use the updated version.

i did, i just didn't know if it was an update, or a whole new take on the browser.

It's basically the same thing, just more shiny.

Pretty much :D

What were you using before? 1.5.0.7? If so then it is indeed a full update.

FF2 had been out not more thana week when FF3 was starting to be worked on. Using Gecko or something like that. Which again, looked no different at all.

Every version of Firefox has used Gecko. :P It's the rendering engine that comes from Mozilla.

Hehe. That's probably because AOL owns Netscape and Netscape uses Gecko. And for those who don't know their history, Netscape was Gecko until it was open sourced and forked as Mozilla.
