Try either Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Or Spybot:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122 ... tag=button
But I use a combination of both to get rid of everything on my computer. I'm guessing it's probably spyware, and those tools should get rid of it. And if you have a firewall, use it.

You have to download and install one if you don't have one.
Like, perhaps a free one...

I find free firewalls really crap. Try this http://ses.symantec.com/content/productlink.cfm?#1_4
it's good old symantec they also have an anti virus program, plus they own the great Norton Firewall.
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/npf/
which is the best firewall you can get.
HOWEVER! If you cannot afford your own firewall try an approved freeware version:
http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm
this is good too.
But if you do have a firewall and you are not sure search "firewall" in http://www.howstuffworks.com it tells you everything to proxy servers and DMZ.
Hope i have been some assistant to you Matt

When I say free, I mean as in pirating.Yuffie wrote:I find free firewalls really crap. Try this http://ses.symantec.com/content/productlink.cfm?#1_4
I find Mcafee firewall to work beautifully.

Zone Alarm is great for a PC user. Black Ice is probably best for a person running a network (by way of firewalls).
AdAware is a sack of crap because it uses it's own form of spyware on your computer. It's best to find some generic ad removal program from http://www.downloads.com/ There are plenty of great freeware programs on there.

mcafee sucks, 8 lines of code and its broken, the good old days...im a convert now ^_^
but for firewalls, im just sittin with zonealarm, if my usb worked id be using pro, but hey, nothings safe, just remember that, getting past firewalls is easy, getting past AV is a bit trickier due to hueristic scaning, i think i spelt that right
and no, telewest doesnt
thi i like telewests pricing plan, *pets his modem* they gave me that for nothing too, how kind ^_^
