- png for a lot of things, including internet images

- gifs only for animation

- jpgs if the quality doesn't matter and you're slapping it on the internet

I like me trusty paint shop pro. Its a lot faster to get things done on it than photoshop, which seems cumbersome in comparison. That's just me though. I don't do graphic design for a living, so psp fits my needs.
